Twisted Metal Review for PS3

If you were ever a child with a controller, you played Twisted Metal, and if you didn’t you owe it to your inner child to do so now. With the release of the new Twisted Metal you’d think there would be nothing but rejoicing, but some people don’t feel as strongly after playing the campaign mode…

Twisted Metal is famed for its creepy and even gruesome past, and the new Twisted Metal for PS3 follows along in a similar fashion, so lets start with its Campaign Mode. For many people this is a controversial topic as the game follows three of Twisted Metals famed characters including Sweet Tooth, Doll Face, and Mr Grimm. Each of these stories is loosely based on the past storys or altered in a new way to keep us guessing. However, when it comes to the controversy you may think, what could honestly go different? The graphics for each cut scene are actually a weird variation of gritty live action sequences, which make me think of a mix of watching the Old Spawn movie and Sin City. Many people think this adds a great and unique style to the game along with an amusingly cheesy voice acting and lines, though being a fan of the devil may cry series I appreciate cheesy and found these scenes closer to lacking. The story feels to me as if it hones a few plot holes but when it comes down to it, this isn’t what this game is all about. The new Twisted Metal if I had only one phrase to describe it I would call it “Killer friend-bashing action.”

In between these unique cut-scenes you’ll find a series of individual missions which have a large range of mindless slaughter and game modes which are a lot like the multiplayer ones, and even boss encounters. Its suggested to complete these missions as doing so will give you a larger variety of weapons and vehicles that you can then use in multiplayer.

Those gripes aside, its time to say why despite these flaws Twisted Metal has still wormed its way into my heart. The play style reminds me similarly of older ones, and when you play in the fast vehicles they really do mean fast. It took me a little bit to get use to the controls, but when I did it was nothing but fun. You get to choose your character and its vehicle, so go with the classic Sweet Tooth and his Ice cream truck, or mix it up a bit in a helicopter for some ground-spraying fun. This game really puts an emphasis on blasting the crap out of your friends, and believe me that’s exactly what I did.

The game allows for unlocking challenge modes, in addition to this and true to the Twisted Metal games it comes back with some cheat codes coded into the game, but I’d suggest enjoying the game normally before you go blasting through with invincibility or unlimited ammo, but the options are there. And, to be fair, none of these cheat codes can be used in the online multiplayer. So if you really don’t want to play the campaign, you can zoom through with these codes, get your unlockable weapons, and head back to the online mode where your friends are waiting to see your new moves.

In total this game sports 17 different vehicles and only 3 characters you can start to play with, though each vehicle has its own unique weapons and stats which consist of variations of armor, speed, and special. Even a helicopter which you might think will give you the edge, but I’m afraid its just as balanced as the rest of the vehicles.

To sum this game up I’d have to say the game does not exceed or break graphical boundaries but gets brownie points for uniqueness and definitely brings back a bit of nostalgia and entertainment.

Those of you who were lucky enough to get in on the early adopters were able to get a Sony Playstation Vita before it’s official release. But it seems not all is going well as many people have reported about getting a error code C2-12383-7.

This pops up when a user tries to install a game you downloaded from PSN or try to copy a game over from the Playstation 3. Several game websites such as IGN has contacted Sony for a response on this issue and are hoping to hear of something soon. A fix should come, but if not early vita owners could be SoL.

Keep a eye on Gamingforce as we will post a fix once announced, stop by the topic on the forum to let us know your thoughts or vent some anger.

Finished another anime this week and this time it’s on a anime called Noir. I really did enjoy this anime since it had some great people from past animation shows working on it. The plot is pretty good and it has music from the great Yuki Kajiura. Only downside is the start is a little slow, but the pacing gets better as the anime goes on. If your into assassins, a interesting plot, and epic music. Be sure to check out Noir as both sub and dub are good.

Here is a description from the wiki:

The series follows the story of two young female assassins, the Corsican Mireille Bouquet and the Japanese amnesiac Yumura Kirika, who embark together on a personal journey to seek answers about mysteries concerning their past. While at first they seem to be only vaguely related to each other, there are clues and hints given throughout the series that there is more going on behind the scenes than at first glance.

Trailer:

Final thoughts:

Superb music with great animation and a good story mix well to make up Noir which has been well acclaimed among great animes. This may have been based on a movie and there is supposedly a live tv series coming out as well.

Story: 10/10 (pretty good storyline)

Characters: 10/10 (You’ll see everything in this anime)

Animation/Artwork: 10/10 (perfect art and animation.)

Pacing: 8/10 (slow to start but gets better)

Rewatch value: High. (it’s a must rewatch.)

Review score: 38/40

Let us know on the forum how you like the anime or got more questions!

What could be either a pointless or bad move, Sony has announced this week LittleBigPlaent Karting. It makes no sense as it could be apart of LBP game and adds competition to it’s own Modnation racers game.

Given the fanbase of LBP, this new karting game promises to be big and most likely successful. Weather or not it will affect modnation racers, remains to be seen.

Final Fantasy XIII was a linear, not well engaging, and restricted in terms of many of its systems like battle, but Final Fantasy XIII-2 aimed to fix all that.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 takes place 3 years after the original game, but this time we are looking through the eyes of Serah, Lightning’s sister. Lightning has gone missing, and only Serah believes she is still alive! This is when Noel, a new character, is introduced. He informs Serah that Lightning is in fact alive but they first have to travel through these time gates in order to get to her. They travel around finding placed artifacts and making things right in order to reunite with her sister. The storyline of this game is a lot simpler and easier to follow.

The Paradigm combat system is back only much faster, the system is similar to its predecessor only much quicker and streamlined, making it easier to use. Paradigm shifting in battle is going to make fans a lot happier but you’ll find yourself waiting for the action gauge and auto battling alot, which you can get by doing that for most of the game with a few shifts.

You only have two human characters to play, the rest of the rolls are filled by monsters that you find on your path, tame, and level up, giving you an array of options to how your party will look; just don’t expect it to be like the first one where you had a ton of characters entering your party every five minutes.

This game has you dancing through time and seeing new universes and time-lines, you’ll find the graphics are still as beautiful—if not more so—as the previous game, visiting many unique places so you’re not always stuck in one area.

Weapons will also be more customizable and can be purchased through traveling merchants, though despite this customization the leveling system feels a bit more restricted then it should have been and the story seems to stray from the original. Though its lack in storytelling has not brought this game down entirely.

Other than just going around bashing enemies there is a casino, chocobo races, and other various mini games to break up the hack-n-slash of your usual games. Including certain puzzles that are required to beat before you can finish the game, though some may find them annoying and in the way it does give a break from battle and adds to the feel of the game. This game feels more like a classical Final Fantasy with exotic characters, some classic Final Fantasy creatures and an amazing soundtrack.

The graphical prowess of the game is still breathtaking, with many places to explore, beautiful characters who still take a stylized anime look and feel, as well as new and old monsters to battle or tame. This game is so pretty that even the frame rate agrees, with the occasional stutter in some of the scenes.

All in all the game takes many of the flaws from the previous and takes leaps and bounds into the right direction, falling short in only a few areas – one of them being the storyline, and taking a few steps back in the leveling system and taking away some control in the finale of some of your battles. But with new environments to explore and combat systems they’ve done a good job of never giving you the chance to have a dull moment, and if battling isn’t entirely your forte don’t forget the puzzles and mini-games they’ve strewn about Final Fantasy XIII-2, but if you play for narrative alone then this game isn’t for you.

Sony has just released firmware 4.1 update for all PS3 consoles which are connected to the internet. Shockingly this update adds a new improved internet browser which will hopefully let PS3 owners better surf the net.

But a downside to this update is a growing report that netflix has been broken. No word from sony yet and no confirmed report of netflix breaking. Let us know on the GF forums if netflix isn’t working for you after the update.

This update also changes everyone from PSN to SEN, Sony’s new online service to better connect everyone to entertainment. This change will not affect your account and will link your account to Sony’s SEN services.
